Puckle Street Projection Festival 2027
Artist Workshop Series – Expression of Interest
About the program
The Puckle Street Projection Festival (PSPF) invites artists and creatives to apply for a professional development workshop series exploring projection art, projection mapping and public art development.
Designed to support artists interested in expanding their practice into projection and public art, the program offers hands-on technical workshops, opportunities to connect with other artists and industry professionals, and guidance in developing and pitching creative projects.
There are 10 places available in the workshop series, providing a small-group learning environment with opportunities for hands-on experimentation, collaboration and direct engagement with the festival's creative team.
Participants will learn foundational projection mapping skills, explore the creative possibilities of working with architecture and public spaces, and develop the skills to communicate their ideas through a project proposal.
No previous projection mapping experience is required. Artists working across a range of creative disciplines are encouraged to apply, particularly digital and lens-based artists with experience using creative software such as Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
The Puckle Street Projection Festival will bring projection art into public spaces, showcasing a range of creative voices and approaches. The broader festival will include additional public programs and activities, supported by marketing and promotion to engage local residents and audiences from across Melbourne.
This is an opportunity to develop new skills, build professional networks and potentially showcase your work as part of a professionally curated public art festival.
Artists who live, work or have a connection to the Moonee Valley area are particularly encouraged to apply. The program aims to support local creative talent while fostering connections between artists and the broader creative community.
An opportunity to exhibit at the festival
Following the workshops, participants will have the opportunity to pitch a creative concept for inclusion in the Puckle Street Projection Festival, taking place from 2–11 July 2027.
Three artist commissions will be selected from the workshop participants, with successful artists receiving further creative and technical mentoring from the festival team to develop and present their work.
Selected artists will exhibit as part of a curated program of 9 projection artworks, featuring a diverse mix of established and recognised artists, mid-career practitioners and emerging artists.

Workshop Facilitators
The Puckle Street Projection Festival Artist Workshop Series will be led by Yandell Walton, an internationally recognised artist, curator and mentor with over 20 years’ experience across digital art, public space, projection and emerging technologies. Yandell has a longstanding connection to Melbourne’s projection art community, including the Gertrude Street Projection Festival and the Centre for Projection Art, where they have held curatorial, producing and mentoring roles. Most recently, Yandell produced the Centre for Projection Art’s Artist Residency Program and curated Intra-Connection for Now or Never Festival and Entangled Worlds, a site-wide activation of Collingwood Yards for Melbourne Fringe. Yandell will be supported by Melania Jack, an interdisciplinary artist, creative producer and mentor with over 20 years’ experience across projection, installation and contemporary arts. Jack has produced projects including PUNQ Festival and Hot & Heavy (Midsumma Festival), and co-curated LANDSCAPES: TECHNOLOGIES: BODIES at Wyndham Art Gallery.
