ARTIST IN RESIDENCE OPPORTUNITY AT WOODLANDS PARK, ESSENDON
Expressions of Interest closing date - Thursday 1 May @ 9AM
CALLING FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FROM ARTISTS SEEKING 8-12 WEEK RESIDENCY AT WOODLANDS PARK HOUSE GARAGE STUDIO
Moonee Valley has an established tradition in arts and culture. We are home to artists, creative practitioners and diverse communities who see art and culture as part of their way of life.
The Arts & Culture Strategy, Igniting Creativity in Moonee Valley 23-27, focuses on supporting the potential of the arts and culture community, and working together in new ways to develop Moonee Valley as a place where artists can create, exhibit, perform, collaborate and have a positive impact on the way we see our city and ourselves.
As part of the refurbishment of Woodlands Park House in 2019, the Garage was adapted into a wet-area artist studio (the Studio), with the installation of taps, basin, storage and small kitchenette.
The Studio, which sits behind Woodlands Park House, is accessible from the Winifred St car park and measures 22sqm (5225mm x 4225mm - excluding kitchenette). It is serviced by a fully accessible toilet, located adjacent to the Garage Studio
MVCC now invites any emerging, mid-career or established artists in any art form to consider an application for Artists in Residency in 2025.
The Artist in Residence program provides creative artists an opportunity to utilise the studio to develop a new body of work for exhibition, publication or performance.
The Artist in Residence program aims to:
- Engage artists developing their artistic processes and practice.
- Provide funded opportunities to artists to research and create new work,
- Provide artists with professional development and networking opportunities, furthering creative business skills,
- Create presentation opportunities to reach new audiences.
This opportunity is for residencies of 8-12 weeks (though longer or shorter residency periods will be considered) and is open to a range of artistic practices including but not limited to:
- Painters
- Sculptures
- Potters
- Writers
- Illustrators
- Photographers
- Designers
- Composers
- Puppet-makers
In addition to the residency space being made available free of charge, Artists in Residence will receive an honorarium of $3,000 per successful application.
Other benefits of the residency include access to staff and other arts management professionals (such as 1 x 1 hour session with a curator at start or end of residency), potential for collaboration with other participating artists, and presentation opportunities.
Note: any equipment required for an artists’ practice will need to be supplied by the artist.
Assessment Criteria
Council will assess each application based on:
